Bishop Libasci visits Second Grade

It’s hard to believe that we are already into the third marking period of the
2011-2012 school year. The children have shown wonderful improvement and growth
in many subject areas, especially in Reading and Math. The following is a plan
for February activities for grade 2.

Congratulations to our Spelling Bee winners: Jacinta S. (1st), Lauren S. (2nd),
and Partick G. (3rd)!  Awesome job!!

Catholic Schools Week is January 29 to February 4. Here’s a list of events for our

Religion – We will begin our First Communion preparation. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22.

Reading – We are moving along in our second book in the Trophies Series, Banner Days. The first theme is Imagination. The children will enjoy reading fantasy stories. Our Spelling and Language Arts activities are directly related to the stories each week.  Remember to read each day at home.

Math – The children have amazed me with their abilities in math. Each day, they have the opportunity to ‘be the teacher’ and show the class how they solve 2-digit addition and
subtraction problems with regrouping. Our next chapter is geometry.

Social Studies –Our community of STA is awesome! The children have researched & interviewed people in the community and will share their information with the class on
Friday, Feb. 3.  Activities have also been planned for Presidents’ Day.

February Vacation begins on Friday, Feb. 24th! I hope you all have a fun and relaxing week.
