Math
We are beginning to work on double digit multiplication and then triple digit multiplication. 4th grade is now responsible for completing a weekly math log. The children need to work on their facts and develop speed in order to do well on double digit multiplication Logs should be handed in on Friday and should be signed by a parent.
Science
The children presented their agricultural region project this week We learned about many countries and what kind of crops are produced in these countries. We also learned about what kinds of foods the people eat. Some of the children made recipes and shared a new food with the class. We tried mango salsa from India and hummus from the Middle East.
Language Arts
English grammar including subject, predicate, and types of sentences have been the focus Each month we cover several vocabulary units and learn new words and how to spell them.
In November and December we will be working on writing personal narratives and our grammar focus will be on nouns and verbs.
The children like to share stories they have written and once a week we share in a group and then with the class. They always get a choice of topics to write about and usually write about themselves or their families.
Religion
We are continuing to collect cans for the parish soup kitchen. The staff at the soup kitchen has requested more canned meat, soups, stews, and fish. Also needed are personal care items. If our class reaches our goal of 40 cans for the quarter we will earn a dress down day.
We are learning about our gift of free will and our conscience. The next chapters in our religion book covers the Ten Commandments. As always we are working on respecting and loving our neighbors.
