The fifth graders are winding up their unit on Rocks and Minerals. It was great to see the students participate in hands-on activities that allowed them to explore samples of various rocks and minerals. They were able to become “apprentice geologists” for a day while trying to identify different rocks and minerals by examining and testing the characteristics of each sample.
The study of Plate Tectonics is approaching fast. It is an exciting unit and will also include some fun hands-on activities to help the students gain a deeper understanding of the processes. Stay tuned for links to some interactive sites on this topic.
