We continue our study of bacteria and viruses. The students have learned the seven classifications of organisms, how to make a taxonomic key, and we will soon be learning the six kingdoms. Each student will then be assigned a childhood viral or bacterial infection to research for our chapter project. A description and rubric for this will be handed out soon. After finishing with this chapter, we will be moving on to the major systems of the body and we will end the year with everyone’s favorite – frog dissecting!

Just a reminder:
Students should be reviewing notes, studying definitions, or writing their key terms (vocabulary words) when homework has not been assigned. Bonus points are given on tests for students who have done all the vocabulary words in back of their notebooks or on index cards. It is the student’s responsibility to be studying a little every night, as the material is more advanced than previous years. At least 2 days notice is given before quizzes and at least 3 days is given before tests, so there should be no excuse for waiting until the last minute to study. If your son or daughter is absent the day before a quiz or test (that has been assigned days before) they are still expected to take the test the day they are back in school. The excuse of “but I didn’t have my books” does not work with me as that means the student had waited until the night before to study. Flashcards are always a great study tool for vocabulary words
