In grade eight we are currently studying rational numbers. We are learning and discovering that many forms of numbers including fractions, decimals, and mixed numbers are considered rationals that are written in different forms. We are also learning how to write, compare, and order such rationals along with order of operations and the properties that pertain to such numbers. Integral exponents and powers are also being studied.
As an eighth grade student each child is responsible for taking clear and precise notes that they can and should use to complete homework assignments. Homework is given just about every night except Friday and their work has to be completed and in school for class in order to be corrected and gone over. All work needs to be shown in order to get credit as we use our homework and its problems to discuss errors and misconceptions. Homework is important and should be viewed as such and no homework is given that the students cannot complete. Therefore, homework is a guide for me as well and if I know that students are struggling with a specific concept I need to find another way to present material not understood. We will have periodic quizzes and tests at the end of each chapter.
